Designed by J. H. Dearle in 1895 for Compton Hall in Wolverhampton, Compton is one of the most intricate patterns produced by Morris & Co.
Characterised by stylised foliage and rhythmic symmetry, the design was originally printed using two sets of woodblocks to achieve its complex layering of 28 colours.
In the Indigo/Russet colourway, rich blue and green tones are lifted with warm russet accents, creating a brighter, more uplifting interpretation while retaining the depth and structure of the original design.
